The Brain Injury Association helps families struggling with traumatic brain injury (TBI), provides TBI prevention education, and offers support groups for TBI survivors. You can help them with their quest by donating a used car with Donate A Car.
Your tax-deductible donation helps provide much-needed funds to families struggling with lifelong disabilities related to traumatic brain injury.
Prevention
The best-case scenario for TBIs is to block them entirely. To this end, the Brain Injury Association is committed to supporting legislation that studies the causes of head injuries and the best preventive measures.
They also support the TBI Information and Resource website. The site includes prevention basics for individuals, parents, teachers, coaches, and health professionals.
They suggest that the top three ways to reduce TBI are to do these three things:
- Wear a helmet
- Wear seat belts
- Do not drink and drive
Many children’s activities, such as skateboarding, roller skating, team sports, and horseback riding, can put children at risk for TBI.
These activities are fun and very healthy for kids, but parents want to protect their kids simultaneously. Wearing a safety helmet can protect while allowing sports and outdoor enthusiasts to do the activities they love.
In 34 states, seat belts are required by law, but beyond the law, wearing seat belts is only a good idea. In an accident, people not wearing seat belts are 8.4 times more likely to suffer a TBI. Fasten your seat belt and stay safe.
Support Groups
Traumatic brain injury changes the lives of survivors and friends, and family. They think the children, parents or spouses they know are often very different and respond to stimuli in new and frightening ways.
Through counselling and support groups to help ease fears and share valuable knowledge and experiences, survivors, family and friends can learn to navigate their new lives.
Support groups help provide TBI survivors with valuable skills to practice in everyday life. How to deal with setbacks, intense mood swings, limited physical abilities, confusion, and other problems inherent in a diagnosis.
They meet monthly at various locations in Delaware, hoping to reach and serve as many survivors as possible.
